Local Natives im Interview "Trumps Präsidentschaft hat uns überrascht"
Die Local Natives haben beim PULS Festival 2016 Zeit für politische Gespräche gefunden. Im Interview reden die Trump-Gegner über den Optimismus auf ihrem neuen Album und warum der in den letzten Wochen noch wichtiger geworden ist.
Das PULS Festival in Erlangen und München war für die Local Natives die letzte Station - 16 lange Wochen waren sie auf Tour durch die ganze Welt. Trotzdem war die Band aus Los Angeles im US-Wahlkampf sehr engagiert dabei. Die fünf Musiker haben sich klar positioniert und Hillary Clinton unterstützt. In ihrem Song "Fountain of Youth" singen sie sogar "I have waited so long, Mrs. President." Auf eine Frau im Oval Office müssen sie jetzt noch etwas länger warten. Im Interview erzählt Sänger Kelcey Ayer, wie es sich anfühlt, den Song jetzt nach dem Sieg von Donald Trump zu singen:
"Trump becoming President did catch us all by surprise and I think, we were pretty certain that Hillary would become President. But we did have this fear of 'What's this song gonna feel like if Trump becomes President? Is it gonna be such a horrible thing to sing every night?' But it has actually turned quite in the opposite. Now that we're faced, all this new challenges, it feels like we need something to build us up and it kind of feels like a protest song more than it ever has before. It has taken on a deeper level and a new meaning for us. It's more positive than we ever thought it could be."
